EASY for Dynamics 365 BC essentially differentiates between two different kinds of data: on the one hand, internal documents which are created by Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and stored in the archive; on the other hand, external documents which are created by an application such as EASY Capture Plus in the ECM system.

In which format internal documents are exported from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and archived/stored in the ECM system is defined in document definitions.

In addition to document definitions, ECM Import Document Definitions defines how the documents stored in the ECM system by external applications are imported into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and are linked with processes or documents.

ECM Transfer/Update Document Definitions define how documents are transferred from one storage within the ECM system to another and which edits are iterated through (e.g. customizing the document's metadata).
